What We Screen For
Visual Signs
- White or red patches in the mouth
- Sores that don't heal within 2 weeks
- Unusual lumps or thickening
- Rough or eroded areas
Physical Examination
- Lips, gums, and cheeks
- Tongue (top, sides, and underneath)
- Floor and roof of mouth
- Throat and neck lymph nodes
Risk Factors
While anyone can develop oral cancer, certain factors increase your risk:
• Tobacco use (cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco)
• Heavy alcohol consumption
• HPV infection
• Excessive sun exposure (lip cancer)
• Family history of cancer
• Age over 55
